Mr. Bean
Mr. Bean is a British comedy television series of 14 half-hour episodes starring Rowan Atkinson as the eponymous title character. The self-titled first episode was broadcast on January 1, 1990, with the final episode, "Goodnight, Mr. Bean", on October 31, 1995. In the tradition of the great silent clowns, Atkinson created a character with universal and multi-generational appeal. With little dialogue, and driven by often ingenious physical comedy, the sketches are always full of laugh after laugh!
The series followed the exploits of Mr. Bean, described by Atkinson as "a child in a grown man's body", in solving various problems presented by everyday tasks and often causing disruption in the process. Mr. Bean's whole life is one funny situation after another. Everything he does is funny, from playing golf, going to the dentist, and going to church. Thankfully, his perseverance is usually rewarded, and he finds an ingenious way around the problem. The humor largely comes from his original (and often absurd) solutions to any problems and his total disregard for others when solving them, his pettiness, and occasional malevolence. He hardly talks, but words are not needed. He lives alone in his small flat in North London, and is almost always seen in his trademark tweed jacket and skinny red tie. His first name (he names himself "Bean" to others) and profession, if any, are never mentioned, though he has been shown in the first episode to have a strong knowledge of trigonometry. He has a stuffed bear named Teddy that he carries around with him all the time.
Mr. Bean's Holiday (also known as Bean 2, Bean on Holiday and French Bean) is a comedy film starring Atkinson as Mr. Bean, released on March 30, 2007. It is the second film based on the television series Mr. Bean, following 1997's Bean.
However, my British friend said that Mr. Bean and Benny Hill are not really representative of British comedy at its finest.
